The Sultana variety has been developed by the UCOLIVO Research Group at the University of Córdoba and BALAM Agriculture is the sole provider authorized to commercialize and propagate it for the next 30 years. Sultana is the genotypic result of crossing the Arbosana variety as the female parent and Sikitita as the male parent. Sikitita itself is the result of another cross between the Picual and Arbequina varieties. This makes Sultana the first variety that embodies the best qualities of three different varieties.
